"Making of The Resistance" DVD Comes with the Limited Edition of Muse's Newest Album and is Well Worth the Watch
![]()
After watching one of these "Making of..." documentaries I usually come away feeling guilty for being critical of the outcome of any musical release. It's quite amazing watching all that goes into creating an album, and watching the creativity at work can be exciting.
This Muse doc — 44 minutes DVD that comes with the limited edition of The Resistance — is easier to watch than others of the ilk. Except do not expect any tension between band members. Personal drama in the studio seems non-existent within Muse.
Muse adds a little of everything: the building of the songs, the tinkering, the special effects (some as simple as stomping feet and clapping hands), and the actual recording. Vocalist, guitarist, and overall renaissance man Matt Bellamy is everywhere. Literally. He can be seen playing various guitars throughout a song, experimenting with synths, playing piano, overlooking orchestration, etc, etc. ... but not anywhere does this DVD doc show Bellamy laying down his vocal tracks. That would have been nice. Why was that left out? Is Bellamy that gun shy?
It's worth getting the limited edition for this DVD. It's only a few bucks more. Hardcore fans will treasure it but even lukewarm fans may watch it more than once, unlike the usual extras that come with CDs.
