Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend's new "Contra" is Very Likable But Still Not as Good as Debut

I seem to have nothing in common with the collective persona known as Vampire Weekend — which continues to be purposely hyped by the music media — and yet I like the group. Their smart, quasi-multicultural American pop rock is electric enough to take a quick liking to. And easy to enjoy from thereon.

Vampire Weekend's Song "Cousins": That's More Like It!

After hearing "Horchata" (a free download on the band's website) from the forthcoming CD Contra, I was a bit discouraged. The song seemed to be lacking the electricity of Vampire Weekend's debut songs.

On the other hand, "Cousins" — another song purposely leaked off the album — sounds like all the great post-punk, new wave songs of the 80s. "Cousins" is certainly a good sign for the release of Vampire Weekend's sophomore effort coming out this month.

Free Single, "Horchata," Sounds More Coldplay than Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend has shown that they know how to Westernize World Beat music, much like Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel, giving it a contemporary edge for a more trendy set. Trendy or not, I hope the trend continues. Vampire Weekend's self-titled debut lived up to the hype with some of the most interesting pop/rock sounds of 2008.
